The Peters World Atlas

New Internationalist Publications (2002)

The Peters projection is one of the most controversial maps ever produced. Behind it lies a challenge to conventional map-makers and their way of presenting the world. Traditional maps have tended to show countries incorrectly in proportion to one another with European maps at the centre with their size exaggerated, while southern continents are shown far too small. In this atlas: - each country shown as its true size in relation to the rest of the world - superb 3-D effects giving unequalled picture of land forms - 246 thematic maps of nature, people, and society. It also offers an understanding of the North South divide and the gulf which separates rich and poor.
